GeigerCars builds gaudy "STAR FORCE" Escalade for Oscar night

Filed under: Aftermarket, SUVs, CadillacClick image for photo gallery. We generally like what the folks at GeigerCars come up with. The German tuner/accessorizer loves American metal, and is known for creating whimsical rides like its Gulf-liveried HUMMER GT, 700-horsepower police-trim H2 and a Christmas-themed HUMMER complete with simulated fireplace. They do customer cars too, and last year, they organized a big meet for European HUMMER owners. That's all well and good."Good" is not a word we'd use to describe their latest creation, a custom Cadillac Escalade for German TV network ProSieben. It will be used for the foreign press outlet's TV coverage of Oscar night in Los Angeles, and it stands as a towering example (even with its 4-inch drop) of "When Bling Goes Bad."We get into the details (look at that hood ornament!) after the jump.[Source: GeigerCars.de]%Gallery-1677%Continue reading GeigerCars builds gaudy "STAR FORCE" Escalade for Oscar night Permalink | Email this | CommentsBOLD MOVES: THE FUTURE OF FORD A new documentary series. CONFIRMED: Taurus, Taurus X and Sable return for 2008

07.02.2007 - Source:SUVs 2

Filed under: Chicago Auto Show, Sedans/Saloons, Wagons/Estates, Crossovers/CUVs, Ford, MercuryClick for a mini gallery of Taurus, Taurus X and SableLet this be a lesson to Ford: if you have a web page up on your servers, it is LIVE even if you don't have a link published for it. The proof comes courtesy of Blue Oval News, where one of their forum posters played around with URL strings and found the splash pages for the 2008 Ford Taurus and Taurus X (née Freestyle), as well as the 2008 Mercury Sable (formerly Montego). The materials were posted, and the rest, as they say, is history. The big news, of course, is the summary renaming of the Ford Freestyle, Ford Five-Hundred, and Mercury Montego to the familiar Taurus and Sable monikers. Ford honcho Alan Mulally made it no secret that he thought ditching the old names was a big mistake, and by resurrecting them, he and Ford hope that shoppers see them and welcome them back with open arms. It could work. There are plenty of people who don't follow this stuff with the level of fanaticism we (and you, the readers) do. For them, the idea of a New Taurus or New Sable will be of interest, even though we all know it's simply a matter of nameplate swapping. It also helps that all three cars are restyled. The Taurus is the Five-Hundred that was rolled out in Detroit. The Taurus X loses the Freestyle name and gains the Edge's face, creating a family look for the crossovers. The Sable's new front end apes that of its little brother, the Mercury Milan. All the cars get the 260-horsepower V6 and some new stuff like Ford Sync will be available across the board. While the initial reaction may be to dismiss this as an act of desperation, it very nicely sets up 2010, when the entire Ford lineup should be all-new. These are just renamed cars right now, but when they get redesigned, they'll be the all-new Taurus and Sable. They'll have had a couple of years to reconnect with the public and by then, all this naming hubbub is going to be a very distant memory. Especially to consumers.Follow the jump for the press releases on all three. Stay tuned tomorrow for much more on these cars, as the Chi-town crew will have live shots, full galleries, and (hopefully) video.[Source: Blue Oval News]%Gallery-1492%Continue reading CONFIRMED: Taurus, Taurus X and Sable return for 2008 Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsBOLD MOVES: THE FUTURE OF FORD A new documentary series. Brisbane Motor Show: Aussie Utes

06.02.2007 - Source:Trucks

Filed under: Trucks/Pickups, Ford, GMClick on the image for a gallery of high-res images of Ford and GM Holden Utes.At the Brisbane Motor Show, which started on Friday, Ford and GM Holden, plus their tuning groups Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) and Holden Special Vehicles (HSV), had plenty of top Aussie utes on display, ranging from the workman Ford Falcon XR6 Cab Chassis, through the higher performance Ford Falcon XR8 and Holden SS Crewman and up into the fully-blown FPV Super Pursuit Ute and the HSV Thunder. As a ute driver myself, it was great to see the totally Oz vehicles proudly flying the flag as fast, fun, rear-wheel drive sports cars with big boots. On the side: our friends over at the Jalop uncovered a story in CarPoint that reports that the launch date for the new Holden Commodore Ute has been bumped forward and that a left-hand drive version is in the cards. Could this mean that GM is considering a El Camino comeback? An even better question is: would you buy one? - Ed.Related: Brisbane Motor Show: Aussie muscle Holden shows off Commodore SS "Morpheous" at Brisbane show Brisbane Auto Show images %Gallery-1453% Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsBOLD MOVES: THE FUTURE OF FORD A new documentary series. Detroit Auto Show: A gallery of heavy haulers

15.01.2007 - Source:Commercial trucks

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show, Trucks/Pickups, Commercial Trucks, Chevrolet, FordSo, who else noticed the complete lack of truck photos in John's otherwise excellent gallery of wallpaper-worthy shots from the 2007 Detroit Auto Show? Well, not every Autoblogger grew up watching Colt Seavers thrashing on a beautiful GMC, so the task of gathering up shots of the latest heavy-duty light trucks fell upon yours truly. For those with diesel fuel running through their veins, we'd like to present photos of Ford's new F-250 and F-450 King Ranch, and Chevrolet's K3500HD Big Dooley and Kodiak C4500. We'd be proud to hit a worksite with any of these vehicles, and the new 4500-series vehicles are particularly interesting to those of us accustomed to occasionally violating the GVWR of our 3/4- and 1-ton pickups. Click on the photo above for 36 pictures of pickup goodness, or use this link. Permalink | Email this | CommentsBOLD MOVES: THE FUTURE OF FORD A new documentary series.
